21st September Final Deadline for Projects and writing

Filed under: Uncategorized — nicholasmid @ 11:41 am

The final deadline for the work on the Final Project is the 21st September 2009. Hand in to the Ellen Terry Reception or post to the Ellen Terry reception. We need two copies of the moving image work on DVD and you need to print off your written work and include that or clearly write out your online blog address.

It is really important that the work is in on time and clearly labelled.

I have had tutorials with a number of students over the past three weeks and much of the work is looking good and progressing well. It is important that the writing you do reflects on the process you have been through in creating your work. You need to write thoughtfully about the process; what has worked, what hasn’t worked, problems encountered and solved and what your influences have been in creating your piece.

Good luck to all

It is really important that you keep up the work on your blog. It needs to continue to document your research and progress for your final project. Remember you need to be able to show this research and development alongside your final piece to be able to graduate with your MA.

I am available for Tutorials with you next Thursday 2nd July. It would be good to catch up with you all to see how things are progressing, to be able to give you feedback and guidance. I will be in Ice from 10am onwards.

Filming Opportunity

Filed under: Project ideas, Things to See — nicholasmid @ 9:48 am

From Jenna Hubbard

I have had a query from a pHD student named Alba Realpe, who is based at Coventry University. She needs to buy some good quality video recording equipment  to film conversations between GPs and patients in their Primary care surgeries. She would like some advice about what equipment would be suitable and is also looking for someone to film and edit the footage with her. She has a large budget to get some good footage, and I was wondering if any of you knew anyone who would be interested in this. Could you please pass this onto students/friends who may be able to help Alba. Her email address is aa6886@coventry.ac.uk

Many Thanks,

Jenna

External Examiner and Marks

Filed under: Project ideas, Things to See — nicholasmid @ 9:19 am

Thanks to those students that met with the external examiner, Trevor, this week. That was Aisha, Kai, Fiona, Chang, Peng, and Jeff.

He really enjoyed meeting with you and was impressed with the range of work that you have been doing and is really looking forward to see the final project work.

I will also be around on Tuesday before and after the workshop to go through the marks that you have so far achieved on the MA.

As all lectures are now finished we continue with tutorials and some workshop events. It is really important that you record all progress and changes to your final project so that you document its development and think and write about things that go well and things that do not go so well. The workshop this coming week may help with some of your developmental ideas. So take the opportunity and go.

Workshop Dash & Dem

Filed under: Uncategorized — nicholasmid @ 9:14 am

A potentially really useful workshop is being given by a company called Dash and Dem. They want to work with MA students on an experimental project during the next week. It will be very useful for some of you in provoking thoughts and approaches to your final project.

The workshop takes place over two days in ICE  this Monday and Tuesday (15th 16th June) from 10am to 4pm.

Have a look at Dash and Dem’s website.

Dash N Dem’s previous work looks at social interventions and performance, and their website details their work more thoroughly (http://www.dashndem.com/).

I will be around on Monday and direct anyone to the workshop.

The idea for the day is for us to be able to discuss the progress of your projects in an enjoyable and inspirational environment. Please make sure your blogs are updated on a regular basis. Trip to Oxford MoMa May 29th

Filed under: Things to See — nicholasmid @ 1:43 pm

The trip to the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford will leave in the morning, time to be confirmed by Ken, and will arrive back by around 4pm.  The exhibition is called Transmission Interrupted and the intro to the exhibition says:

Interrupted

Interrupted

Transmission Interrupted looks at how contemporary artists disrupt prevailing forms of registering and representing the world. With contributions from over fourteen artists working internationally, the exhibition demonstrates art’s ability to make visible and audible what remains unseen and unheard at a time when free speech and democracy are invoked as universal values to which we can all subscribe. Many of the works in the exhibition are poetic testaments to events and experiences that have a passing and, in some cases, recurring presence in the public domain.
